The real reason for the username seven

Once upon a time in a village far, far away, I came across some grafitti at an MBTA station. The grafitti, neatly written in one foot high, white letters, said "Six words on a station wall". For some reason this piece of self-referential grafitti fascinated me.

A few days later I tried out a new chat program on the computer network at U.Mass. The program required that I select a seven character username. Instantly I decided that I should choose the username seven.

So I've been using the name seven since 1984. Before I settled on the name seven. I used names such as Dark Moon, Necron 99, Ratstar (a pallindrome), and beep. Frequently I'll use the name Degu on IRC because usually someone else is using seven.

Just today (9/17/97), I was horrifed to discover that the writers for Star Trek: Voyager have renamed the character Seven of Nine (played by Jeri Ryan) to Seven. And my choice of name definately has nothing to do with the boy named Seven on "Married with Children" (played by Shane Sweet).

Searching IMDB, I found some more characters named "Seven". Maurice Sendak created an animated series called Seven Little Monsters. One of the monsters is named "Seven".
